How to Make a Lemon Drop

A customer tells you they’re on a new detox diet and that they want a ‘healthy’ cocktail.  You nod approvingly while pondering this wonderful contradiction.  But what drink would appeal to their fleeting stab at health, while also allowing them to get ‘social’.  Today’s cocktail recipe fits the bill.  The Lemon Drop is a sweetly tart gem that will have them coming back again and again.  Let’s get to it.

Grab a martini glass and fill with ice.  Set aside.

In an ice-filled cocktail shaker combine:

1.5 ounces of Citrus Vodka

1 ounce of fresh lemon juice

½ ounce of simple syrup

Shake ingredients vigorously for 10-12 seconds.  Set aside.

Take a lemon wedge.  Dump the ice out of the martini glass and run the lemon wedge around the rim of the glass.

Rim the glass in extra fine granulated cane sugar careful to only line the outside of the glass with sugar.  Knock off any loose sugar from the rim.  We talk about rimming glassware in this post here.

Strain contents from cocktail shaker into the chilled sugar-rimmed martini glass and garnish with a wedge of lemon.

Now put these out across the bar and pretty soon you’ll have folks calling you the Richard Simmons of drink making!
